An Indian wedding is not one morning in the chair. It is a sequence of celebrations — often three days, sometimes more — and each one asks something different of your hair and makeup. Planning them together, rather than event by event, is what makes the whole weekend feel effortless.
Here is how we approach a multi-day wedding with our brides, from the first conversation to the final reception look. If you are just beginning, our Indian wedding hair and makeup page explains how we work across every event.
Start with the full schedule, not just the wedding day
The most useful thing you can share at inquiry is every event, in order: date, start time, venue, and who needs hair or makeup for each. A Thursday mehndi, a Friday-morning haldi, a Friday-night sangeet, a Saturday ceremony and a reception that evening is a very different plan from a single-day ceremony and reception.
With that schedule in hand, we can tell you what is realistic — how many artists you need at each event, where a full look is worth it, and where a refresh will do.
What each event usually asks for
- →Mehndi: candlelit, intimate, and seated for hours while your henna is applied. A soft, luminous look, and a hairstyle that keeps hair off your hands and arms.
- →Haldi: bright daylight and turmeric. Many brides go minimal here or skip makeup entirely — a good way to rest your skin before the bigger nights.
- →Sangeet: dancing, performances and plenty of flash photography. Longevity and secure hair matter more than anything.
- →Ceremony: the longest stretch of the weekend, under mandap lighting, with your heaviest jewelry and dupatta. This is the look we plan most carefully in your trial.
- →Reception: a full change or a refined refresh. Decide which at booking so the timeline holds space for it.
Ceremony morning: work backwards from the muhurat
Many ceremonies are timed to an auspicious muhurat, and the baraat arrives before it. That makes the ceremony morning the least flexible part of the weekend. We build it backwards from the moment you need to be dressed and photographed — which usually means an earlier bridal start than brides expect. Our wedding morning timing guide walks through the same backward math for any wedding.
Leave room for dressing. Lehengas, sarees and dupattas take time, and jewelry is set after the hair is finished. We schedule your final touches after you are dressed, so nothing is rushed at the mirror.
Mothers, sisters and the rest of the family
Indian weddings tend to have longer getting-ready lists than a typical bridal party — mothers, sisters, cousins, aunties, sometimes the groom’s family as well. Tell us how many people need services at each event, not just on the wedding day. It is the single biggest factor in how many artists we bring and what time we begin.
Plan the weekend as one story, and every look will feel like it belongs to it.
The reception change
A reception change can be as simple as a deeper lip, fresh lashes and a new hairstyle, or a completely new look to match a second outfit. Both are lovely. What matters is deciding in advance, so the timeline holds space for it rather than squeezing it between photos and your grand entrance.
When to book
A multi-day wedding takes an artist off the calendar for several days in a row, so reach out as soon as your dates and venues are confirmed — nine months out is a good rule, earlier for peak-season weekends. Your trial at our Copley studio is where we finalize each look; here is what to bring to your Indian bridal trial.

Let's Talk →Frequently Asked Questions
How many hair and makeup sessions does an Indian wedding need?
Most brides book for the sangeet, ceremony and reception, and many add the mehndi. Haldi is often kept minimal. The right number depends on your schedule and which events are photographed most.
Can one artist handle the whole family?
It depends on how many people need services at each event and how much time there is before it begins. Share headcounts per event at inquiry and we will recommend the right team size.
Should I do a full reception look change or a refresh?
Either works. A refresh (lip, lashes and a restyled hair look) is faster; a full change suits a dramatically different outfit. Decide at booking so the timeline allows for it.
