Getting Ready at Stan Hywet Hall: A Bridal Stylist's Guide

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is eight minutes from our Copley studio. It's one of the most frequently booked venues on our calendar — and one of the most photographed estate venues in Ohio. Here's what the morning actually looks like.

The preparation rooms

The bridal suite at Stan Hywet is inside the manor house. The rooms have the estate's characteristic heavy wood trim and formal proportions — beautiful for photos, sometimes challenging for styling light. North-facing rooms are cooler in light quality. Request a room with east-facing or south-facing windows if you can specify.

We bring professional lighting regardless, but natural light quality affects the getting-ready photography. Talk to your coordinator about room options when you do your venue walkthrough.

The grounds and the morning logistics

Stan Hywet is expansive. The formal English gardens, the manor house, and the event spaces are spread across 70 acres. On a wedding morning, this is beautiful — but it means logistics take longer than they would at a hotel venue. Build in extra time between when styling ends and when ceremony prep begins.

Late summer at Stan Hywet — particularly August and September — is some of the most beautiful wedding photography in Ohio. The English garden at peak bloom is exceptional.

Best seasons

Late summer and fall are peak season at Stan Hywet, and for good reason. The garden reaches full bloom in July through September. Fall foliage frames the manor beautifully in October. Winter weddings in the manor have a formal, candlelit quality that works for the aesthetic.

Spring can be unpredictable in Northeast Ohio. If you're planning a May wedding at Stan Hywet, have an outdoor contingency plan and discuss humidity management for your hair at the trial.
